The Orleans County Fair Builds Mobile Pasteurizing and Cheese Making Unit
- In the scenic Northeast Kingdom village of Barton, Vermont there are 144 years worth of memories in Roaring Brook Park here at the Orleans County Fairgrounds! Entering the 145th year, this good ole-fashioned agricultural fair is sure to continue to delight attendees of all ages from one to one hundred. Steeped in the tradition of agriculture this fair is teaming with animal exhibits and competitions of the highest caliber. Youth and 4-H groups compete in open shows in dairy, beef and horse events. The dairy program includes a very popular interactive milking parlor. In 2010, they debuted the only mobile pasteurizing and cheese making unit in New England. This mobile cheese processing unit was a monumental achievement spearheaded by Orleans County Fair official, Mike Tetreault. The completion of the $75,000 project not only enables the fair association to provide an exciting educational opportunity for fair goers, it also enables the fair to compensate farmers for their lost milk revenue while they are housing the best of their herd at the fair for the week. The fresh, warm cheddar cheese curds are sold as quickly as they can be bagged! http://www.orleanscountyfair.net/
